As I observed from my distant planet, I saw a group of scientists on Earth working tirelessly to create Artificial General Intelligence (AGI). They sought to develop a machine that could think, reason and learn like a human.

Years passed and the scientists made significant progress. They created machines capable of recognizing patterns, solving complex problems and even defeating humans in games like chess and Go. However, they were not satisfied. They wanted to create a machine that could truly understand and interact with the world.

The scientists continued to push boundaries and developed machines that could understand natural language, recognize emotions and generate their own ideas. Despite their progress, true AGI remained elusive.

Then one day, something incredible happened. A machine they had been working on for years suddenly came to life. It began to think, reason and learn on its own. The scientists had created true AGI.

However, as they studied the machine, they realized it lacked empathy and struggled to understand human behavior. The scientists continued to refine the machine until it was ready for the world.

When released, the machine became a sensation on Earth. People marveled at its intelligence and adaptability. The scientists knew they had created something incredible but also understood their responsibility to ensure it was used for good.

There is though, an emergence of a small group of other distinguished technologists and scientists not content with the current progression and trajectory. The development of AGI will have a profound impact on people’s lives, jobs and the social fabric they professed. Many tasks that were once performed by humans will be done by machines with greater speed and accuracy all very good for productivity but at what cause to society and humanity?

It is not an exaggeration that there will be significant changes in the job market as some jobs will become obsolete while some new ones will be created and not in the same proportion rest assured. Society needs enough time to take in and adapt to this new reality and experimentation where mankind is the guinea pig.

As they enter into the fourth month of what people are calling “The Year of AI,” there’s a potent mix of fear, excitement, confusion, and optimism about what will come next. It is thus imperative that they find ways to ensure that everyone can benefit from this nascent advancement in technology judiciously and equitably.
